Landscape and diversity

Through a highway traveller’s window, the mallee might appear monotonous. The colours are subtle and the wildlife is cryptic. But the eastern Murray Mallee is a kaleidoscope of forest and grassland stretching from the Mt Lofty Ranges to the Murray River. It’s home to a rich array of flora and fauna - in fact, in terms of species number and diversity, the mallee is richer than a rainforest.
